At some point, my mother decided it would be a good idea to buy me a subscription to Women's Day Magazine.  I rarely ever read magazines, so it was a rare moment when i sat down to read last months.  I came across an article called Cracking the Codes that I found exceptionally helpful!  It listed a number of websites to help save money when purchasing things online.  I figured I'd share the wealth because these sites are awesome!

Thousands of codes for pretty much any online retailer you can imagine.  Just today I found some to get free items with a purchase or save $5 or 5% off purchases. BONUS: a tool to add to your web browser that alerts you if you're shopping at a site for which there's a code!

Also compiles a list of popular retailers with promotional codes available

Compiles a list of retailers that offer free shipping on purchases

A database of promotional codes AND printable coupons

it's been one week since i quit smoking.  so far so good, although each day has been getting harder.  today has been no exception.  and it really doesn't help that it's absolutely beautiful outside, so my coworker and i have been standing outside when we dont' have customers.  and my coworker is a huge chain smoker.  it's been really tough to resist bumbing one from him today.

so, over the last couple years, i have picked up the bad habit of smoking.  which is totally dumb considering i made it through my high school years resisting the peer pressure only to randomly start doing it in my twenties.  for the most part, i only smoke when i drive, so i was only really smoking 2 cigarettes a day, but even a little is still bad.  lately, since the weather has been nice, i've been wanting to go outside and smoke with my coworker during the day.  now my two a day is turning into 3 or 4.  so i've decided to nip this crap in the bud before it gets out of hand.  noone in my family smokes.  most of my friends don't smoke.  and, more than anything, i really don't like the stigma of being a smoker.  funny how in high school all the cool kids smoked. now, all the cool kids don't.  what a vicious cycle!  so, anyways, i went to a smoking cesation counselor the other day and she gave me some really helpful ideas of how to break the habit.  sadly, since i'm such a light smoker to start with, she didn't recommend a patch or gum, becuse they contain more nicotine than i usually get in a couple cigarettes.  so i'm doing it cold turkey.  yesterday morning, at 9:30 was my last official cigarette.  i've thrown away the pack.  i'm keeping a constant supply of straws in my car so i have something to hold and put in my mouth to substitue for the tobacco.  i've got a container of Vics vapo rub in the car to get rid of any smokey smell.  but it's still so hard!!

so, all you former smokers out there, any advice you can give on your process to quit, please send them my way.  and everyone else, send me some good anit-smoking vibes to keep me motivated!  i figure if i post on here about my plans, it will help me stick to it so i don't have to embarrasedly tell everyone that i failed!

Every three months or so I get the urge to post in livejournal.  Like I think that maybe this time, I'll actually start posting consistently again.  What is it about the idea that people care enough about your life that you need to write a whole blog about it?  I guess facebook has kind of supplanted blogging.  I guess I could find all my status updates and post them in here and it'd be the same thing, eh ;)

Anyways,  so what's new in the glorious world of Liza?  I'm gonna be like Nicky's old blog and make sections!

On Life
Life has actually been quite good lately.  This move to Pittsburgh, while not wholey productive on the job front has definitely been productive on my happiness.  I do miss being close to friends, but I do NOT miss living with tons of people.  Me, Nicky and Chloe have a nice little family atmosphere going on now.  I think having to rely on each other without the distraction of friends has been a huge improvement on our lives.  Even though money has been tight, and Nicky's still struggling to find a job in his field, I'm just all around happier.  Happier in life and in my marraige.  I haven't been this close to him since we first got together and were in our blissful courtship phase.  I get off work around 7:00 and he gets off work at 9:00pm.  So I have time to actually cook us a nice homemade dinner a few nights a week.  I feel quite domestic.  Sometimes I even cook barefoot (but not pregnant) in the kitchen ;)

On Work
My new job at Cricket isn't too bad.  It had a rough start.  Cricket customers in Pittsburgh are very different from Verizon customers in Indiana.  My old Verizon customers used to adore me.  Here, people are just cranky all the time.  I think they're starting to warm up to me, but Cricket customers have an obnoxious sense of entitlement for someone who can't afford to get "a real plan."  I'm getting used to getting yelled at more.  And the job is almost identical to what I used to do.  Just with different phones and plans.  My coworker is absolutely awesome.  We get along really well, which makes the job a lot easier.  My boss is NOT a dickhead like all my old ones.  I actually have health insurance!  A pretty decent benefits package.  And paid sick days!  I've never had those before!  Over all, this seems like one of the most reputable companies i've worked for.  But time will really tell on that one.

On Nicky's Work
Thankfully, Nicky has been able to find a job and one that doesn't pay too poorly.  We actually both found our jobs through the temp agency.  His job involves processing forms to get appraisals done on home loans - or something like that.  It's a lot of computer and data entry work with some calling to realtors to process the actual appraisals.  It's defintely not a great job, by any  means, but it does pay the bills!  The shity economy has hit his job hunt pretty hard.  We're still hoping that he'll be able to find something in his field.  It sucks that he has a master's degree and can only get work doing something a high school grad could perform.  But such is life I suppose!  I'm just glad we both have reliable employment!

On the Family
As I said, we've been quite the happy family lately.  Chloe is as frisky as ever.  We keep expecting her to lose some of her playfulness, but she never does.  We can barely keep up sometimes.  We think she's starting to put on some weight, so I'm gonna have to start taking her for longer walks now that the weather is getting warmer.  Which works out cause I need to get more exercise myself.  I've joined a gym and go once or twice a week - which is better than nothing, I suppose.  Since January, I've lost about 10 lbs, which isn't huge, but still a success!  I just wish I didn't have a job that had so much downtime.  Being bored makes me eat!

Well, I suppose that's all the exciting stuff for now!  I'll probably see ya'll again in another 3 months ;)

is there any way to view more than just a few friends entries on your friends page?  or do you have to go to each person's page to view things older than a few days?

So, the whole reason I was even on Livejournal today was because I was trying to find some info on my last couple months at Comtel.  They recently filed for Bankruptcy and I was talking to a lawyer about what my options were for trying to get some of the money they owe me.  The lawyer got me a "Proof of Claim" form to fill out with exactly how much I think they owe me and according to this paper, Wages and commission are considered a Priority Entitlement.  Which sounds exciting....  I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but man, it sure would be awesome if I could get the money they owe me!

As I've been going through everything, I was really impressed with myself and how organized I was at the very end.  Nothing like my total lack of organization now :-p

I emailed myself copies of our schedules, commissions, company emails, anything with exact numbers of sales and hours for the months we hadn't been paid for.  The only thing I'm missing is a copy of our commission structure which I'm hoping I still have around the house.  So far, I've calculated that they owe me $2832 just in hourly wages!  And a LOW estimate of my commissions is $2490.  So I've already totaled up $5322 owed.  Just wait till I find our commission sheet.  That number will go up another couple hundred, I'm sure.

So, everyone cross your fingers.  It's been exactly a year since Comtel took our money and ran.  Here's hoping I can get some of it back!!

MIDDLETOWN -- A Middletown woman is accused of being disorderly in public -- while wearing a cow suit.

A police report filed about the incident said Michelle Allen allegedly chased children in her neighborhood while wearing the suit on Monday evening.

Allen also urinated on a neighbor's front porch, the report said, and was warned by officers to go home and stay there.

Allen was charged with disorderly conduct after an officer found her causing traffic problems on North Verity Parkway.

The officer's report stated that Allen was verbally abusive to him on the trip to jail and smelled of alcohol.

The best part is, they have her mug shot on the news article's website.
